From the time the iPod Mini was replaced by the Nano model in 2006, Steve Jobs found it beneficial to update the line every year. The latest innovation in the newest Apple iPod Nano is a total departure in the looks department. But with careful observation, this could just be another novelty product in the Nano line.
The new model has a square 240x240 pixel multi-touch screen. You can swipe through the screens, each with 4 icons that can be arranged for quick access. Navigating through your music collection is much easier compared to the usual click wheel. The technology reminds you of the iPod Touch, iPhone and other touch screen mobile phones, at a fraction of its size.
The iPod Nano is often highlighted by its slim profile, although narrower and longer than the newest release. The first 2 models are identical in physical and screen size, the 4th and 5th are also the same except that the latter has bigger screen. Notice that the design trend was disrupted in the 3rd and now, the 6th generation.
The 3rd model is shorter, but is wider, thicker and heavier in size. The 2-inch screen is perfect for video playback, which was highlighted in this offering. Although the screen and click wheel are laid out in front, the look is different from the rest. This model was only offered in 4GB and 8GB capacity and signaled the end to lower capacity iPods. Video playback was carried over to the next two updates along with the screen size; the overall design aesthetics was no longer visited.
Just like the 3rd model, the advance in the iPod Nano could possibly be just another disruption to the narrow design of this iPod line. But this doesn't mean it's not worth the attention. Aside from the size and user interface, this Nano comes in 8GB and 16GB capacity. It's like having a more advanced iPod Shuffle with more songs to play. It can also play for 24 hours on a single charge, so you get uninterrupted music the entire day.
